I know there has been some threads on the above but as they are a while ago (the ones i have seen) would appreciate any views on the above and compatability with Windows XP.
As a virgin customer its a ‘freebie’ but after looking at various reviews reception seems mixed.
Would like a definitive steer from fellow DSers!!!

I phone VM the other day and was told my account was flagged – to get a new modem, which duly arrived 2 days later.
Being a great beleiver in the adage “if it aint broke, don’t fix it” I am not sure whether to replace my existing Surfboard SB5100. The new modem is a much smaller Ambit unit.
A quick speed test indicates that I am getting close to my 20meg connection speed, so I see no reason to swap them over.
Is there any reason why I should replace the old unit? I do not expect to go down the 50Meg route – 20 is fine for me.

Anyone here on the VIP package upgraded to 50 meg? How much does it cost to do that? Also, is it worth it? Do you notice the extra speed?

50mb…..!!
Seems like its gonna happen…Heres part of the email i received today….. Make of it what u will
Dear Mr xxxxxxx
I forwarded your query to xxxx xxxxxxxx and he has responded:
“The technical challenges in his area are such that relief work is not an easy task.
The hardware has been installed and we are now waiting to integrate the hardware into the core network.
Whilst Mr xxxxxx is correct in that he was told we would have completed the work by end Jan 09, due to some technical issues this has been delayed and our current target is completion by end Feb 09.
Once this is done we will be in a position to bring the DoCSIS 3.0 Network ‘online’ and then the relief to the congested ports in the area will be undertaken.
