Lost channels Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Hi,

I’m in the North East and I have noticed that I have lost Ch5 and QVC and from memory the ITV news channel. All channels say bad signal although I get the programe information.

Anyone else had this problem. I use Pontop Pike.

CNBC & Bloomberg on Mux A ? Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Now that the ITC have agreed that SDN & D 3&4 can continue to operate using 64 QAM, so that SDN can launch two new channels on Mux A, what are the odds on the above two channels turning up on DTT?

AFAIA, Bloomberg has just left the DAB national multiplex, and CNBC were apparently in talks with CC at one time about carriage.

16/64qam is good news for paylite Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Hiya

With the introduction of mixed mode operation it paves for the way for a paylite element.

Both the pace dvta and nokia 221t have subscription card access and i suspect this can be upgraded to secc2.

This will allow 12 channels to be carried on digital 3&4 plus mux A.

I would like to see ch4 bring back both E4 and Film 4 both of which are quality products, this would mean digital 3&4 would be full also carrying itv1, itv2 and itv news.

Mux A has the potential to carry six channels, ch5, qvc(regional options) and tv travel shop. TTS could be dropped in favour of a channel which could create greater revenues. This would leave the ability to add 3 possible 4 channels to Mux A.

SDN should get together with SKY & Ch4 to re-introduce a limited, obvious contenders would be SKY One, Discovery, Paramount and UK Gold.

Also I would like to see TCM on the platform 24*7 and not split between Boomerang and CNN.

Community Channel coming to daytime! Freeview

According to the FT…

“The Beeb has assured Media Trust that the Community Channel slot will be moved to daytime in February.”

I wonder if this will be 1/8th screen?

Hannington Transmitter Freeview

I’ve been told that this transmitter has been approved to double the Xmitt power for digital transmissions.
Does anyone know when this will be implemented?

BBC Mux1 Jerkiness Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Has anyone on the Blackhill transmitter (or anywhere else for that matter) noticed occasional temporary pauses on the main Beeb mux? I’m talking fractions of a second here, with no pixellation, so I don’t suspect signal problems. The best analogy would be old PCs running the Marquee windows screensaver, every so often the smooth motion is interrupted by a miniscule pause.

I’ve not noticed it on any other Muxes, perhaps it’s one for BBC Engineering.

New services coming. Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Looks like C4 and SDN have services lined up for the 16/64-QAM decision just announced.

Not much detail as yet but this has proved to be a reliable source in the past.

701/702 testing today Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Seems that BBCi have been testing 701/702 as this morning some sort of FA Cup Interactive thing was there and about 1/2 hour ago so was an interactive service for The Chicken Run at Christmas.

Looks like Christmas will be quite good interactive wise (but still no sign of News Interactive)!

Interesting ‘at-home-test’ with ariels Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Ok, just did me a quick test to work out how well my Dec-2k software tracks changes in signal strength and quality; basically trying to optomise my rooftop ariel position.

Well, unplugged my wall socket ariel cable, and plugged a metal coathanger into it.

Guess what…with proper orientation got perfect reception as regards quality and level, and no breakup of TV image!

I am 4 floors up and about 20 miles from Blackhill, and having just installed a high-gain group E Yagi aerial, beginning to wonder if it was a worthwhile investment!

Anyway, guessing for those of you looking at using indoor aerials, if you got the reception, it should work!
