Over the last couple of days, i’ve noticed that when watching BBC2 on my widescreen sony, when they are broadcasting a 4:3 picture (like the american version of the weakest link on right now) my Pace DTVA seems to be putting the TV into 14:9 mode, even if I manually select 4:3 on the TV remote and switch channels to BBC1 and back to BBC2, it makes the TV go into 14:9 mode. anyone else experiencing this? I think they are transmitting the wrong AFD code. 4:3 pictures on five and ITV make the TV go into 4:3 mode as expected.
They are. Sure they weren’t yesterday. Is this a policy to move away from WS, or is it just a mistake? Probably the latter.

Anyone notice that the Nurburgring qualifying on DTT was a 14:9 image in a 16:9 frame? There was definitely more side information than on analogue. Normally transmitted 4:3 in a 4:3 frame.

is anyone else having their WS TV switch to 14:9 mode on a lot of BBC2 stuff? the current yank weakest link is auto switching to 14:9 and I have noticed a lot of other progs doing it as well. Normally 4:3 is set to 4:3 so its weird that these 4:3 shows are switching to 14:9
This morning channel 149 appeared labled “On Demand”. If you try and access it it throws you out. Does this have anything to do with the channels we should have got on the 1st? Are they testing that they can broadcast them, by adding an on demand channel as a test? Lets hope so
why is local news on itv 14:9 instead of 16:9?
For Scottish SKY viewers wanting see the match in glorious W-i-d-e-s-c-r-e-e-n, switch to BBC2 England, unless you prefer your 14:9 cut-out as Broadcast in Scotland…..but you’ll have to make do with our commentary!

As per the title.
Why, oh why, oh why?!
Dr. Finlays Casebook, a Scottish Television production from the nineties (or eighties?), has been given the cropping treatement by ITV3. Doing this to Kids’ and News is bad enough, but to a whole program is rediculous.
If a widescreen viewer wants to crop to 14:9 then broadcast in 4:3 and the viewer can crop it. Don’t annoy the many 4:3 viewers and those who wish to watch it pillarboxed.
E-mail will be sent to ITV Plc duty office this evening.
