Story in the Sunday Telegraph about Sky about to launch Sky One Mix for DSAT but wont launch Channel 6 for at least 2 years and they may wait until 2005 before launching.

As you need to sign up to the Telegraph site – here’s a few snippets from their story. The whole story is in their Business Section on their site.

“However, The Telegraph has learned that Sky’s much-publicised plans to launch a general entertainment channel on digital terrestrial television, which has been dubbed Britain’s Channel 6, will not proceed for at least two years and may have to wait until 2005.

This will surprise many in the industry, since Channel 6 is viewed as a central part of the new programming plans of Dawn Airey, Sky’s managing director of networks, who is due to join Sky from Channel 5 in the New Year.

The timing of Airey’s new free-to-air channel will depend on the popularity of Freeview, the digital terrestrial service being created by the BBC, which is expected to launch with about 1m viewers.

While plans for Channel 6 may have to wait, preparations are well advanced at Sky to unveil Sky One Mix in the next few months, possibly as early as November. Repeats of favourite shows could be broadcast on the channel within a few hours of their original airing.”

                Hi,

I was aware of the upgrades NTL were planning in Q1 of 2005 to their package’s download speeds (as well as the proposed caps) as reported on the register web site as well as this one.

The jist of the story was 300k would increase to 1MB, 750 to 2MB and 1.5 to 3MB.

Also, there would be a £25 admin charge.

However, the phone call we got yesterday – the guy from the call centre just informed as that ntl speeds were increasing soon and that our service would be improved to 750k.

Its now made me think..I am on 300k, why is it only up to 750 and not 1meg like originall proposed – and why no mention of the admin fee?

Thanks.

TG7.

	Quote:

ntl recently annouced within their Q3 2004 financial results that new higher speeds will be launching around the start of 2005, those being 1MB with a 5GB monthly bandwidth usage, 2MB with 30GB monthly bandwidth usage and a 3MB connection with a 40GB monthly bandwidth usage allowance.

Just received this email from Telewest’s E-contact department:

“Our Personal Video Recorder (PVR) was originally scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2005. I can confirm PVR release is still to go ahead. However, due to technical issues regarding integration of the PVR with our other new service – Teleport, final testing is currently around 8 weeks behind schedule.”

“Although no release date has yet been confirmed, we remain confident of release in the near future, possibly around the end of the year. As final details regarding the service remain to be confirmed, we, as yet, have no further information regarding the cost of the service However, we will release further details to all our customers when these become available. “

8 weeks after the end of 3Q is the beginning of December. This guy seems confident we will see it for Christmas…

REFERENCE : XXXXXXX

Thank you for your e-mail dated 5 October 2005.

I refer to your query regarding the upgrade of Broadband in your area.

It is planned to upgrade broadband services in the Yorkshire area at the
end of this year. The charges for Broadband will change as the upgrade
offer is completed and the new packages are available in each area. It
was not possible to carry out the work nationally, we have had to
convert the service area by area.

Who else found this service really fast on NTL, and it actually worked flawlessy? Superb.

The BBC’s multiscreens were great – they showed replays of the Downing Street and board graphics, repeats of the news headlines and extra little bits. The service was really fast on NTL too. Freeview’s service was a bit limited (then again, most Freeview services are), and they had the two extra video streams – one mainly showing the graphics and the other one a summary of the news headlines, along with other things.
