Traffic managed because of upload (according to VM support) Nowhere near limit. Virgin Media Broadband

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

I’ve just been on the phone to VM’s premium help line with proof on screen that i was nowhere near my usage limit and a sneaking suspision (i can smell STM like a fart in a car) that i was under management.

After the usual local checks it was deemed that Preston was trouble free, and after a call back (and a refund of my original call) i was informed that, yes, traffic management was in-place. Woot, i thought i had Branson by the balls! I had a Network monitor stats log saved from when i thought i was being managed, (about half-eight tonight) so i asked who i would forward this information to in order to take it further (though now Watchdog comes to mind!) another call back later and apparently i’ve been managed in a totally fair way because i had reached my upload limit
Now, correct me if i’m wrong but this isn’t what VM state on their ‘We don’t like traffic jams‘ page:

So, unless you’re downloading an unusually large amount of information at peak times, we won’t restrict your service and you can download to your heart’s content.

The log i’ve saved states that in the four hours previous to the stm, i downloaded 460mB and uploaded 581mB (criminal i know) on VMs 20mb package.
I’m unimpressed and i hope someone from Virgin reads this and can provide some sort of explanation for this madness.

Watch Drops Relationship Dramas Because They Are “too demanding”. Broadcasting

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Looks like Watch don’t have a very high opinion of their viewers.

From “Broadcast”
“BBC hits such as Mistresses, Cranford and Love Soup are being dropped because their story arcs are too “demanding” for a pay-TV audience.”

BBC standards at all time low – Worse than ever because of women Broadcasting

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

I see someone else thinks the BBC is broadcasting awful television now.

Not only Patrick Moore http://news.scotsman.com/latest.cfm?id=714392007 , but also the ex-director general Alasdair Milne, who blamed women for making the BBC “dumb, dumb, dumb” and said he believed its programmes were “terrible”.

Mr Milne, who was Director-General from 1982 and 1987, said at the time: “It just seems to me that the television service has largely been run by women for the last four to five years and they don’t seem to have done a great job of work.”

I cant say I’m surprised. Ok so on a forum like this [where people love tv] we may see more BBC supporters, but the reality is that the nation as a whole doesnt have choice to not buy a licence so just puts up with poor programming, but for how much longer.

Given that you can receive many many other channels without payment, how can the BBC (with ever lowering standards of service) warrant enforcing payment of the licence.

I Missed F1 because of ITV Broadcasting

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Ok usually i hugely stick up for ITV but this is a definite moaning point.

i don’t know if this ad was shown in just the Themes Valley Tonight Region or it was a national Ad. It was during the last break of Harry Hills TV Burp.

It was for The Australian grand pix i assumed it was for Live coverage but it was for the repeat it just said the Australian GP Tomorrow at 4:10 i assumed they meant live at 4:10am but they really meant the repeat will be on at 4:10PM

i didn’t check it in my EPG, but if i didn’t have sky i would never have known.

as a result i set my alarm for 4:45 thinking it would start at 5:00AM, but when i turn on the TV i find a graphic showing the final positions and Steve rider waffling on about something.

I think that ITV should be clearer in there advertising. had they said 4:10PM i would have known they were talking about the repeat but they just said 4:10.

ill have to Sky+ the repeat as im watching the Football on Sky this afternoon.

Is it possible to cancel VM ‘in contract’ because removal of Sky channels? Cable

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

I am quite disappointed if they go ahead and remove these Sky channels, if I am still in contract would it be possible to cancel the service because of this (without paying out the minimum term)?

I dont really understand the legal jargon but just looking through the terms on conditions it says this:

….’
If:
a) we and/or Virgin Media Payments increase our charges under this agreement;
b) we make significant changes to the services so the services you are entitled to receive in return for the charges you pay are significantly altered or reduced; or
c) we and/or Virgin Media Payments make significant changes to the terms and conditions of this agreement (including the other legal stuff),
you may cancel those services affected without penalty by giving us at least 30 days’ notice in writing. If you cancel any services in these circumstances, the increased charges will not apply to those services during the 30 day notice period and paragraph J2 will not apply if you cancel before the end of the minimum period. If you do not give us notice of cancellation within 30 days of any increase in charges or changes to the services or this agreement being notified to you or, if later, receipt of your first bill following such increase in charges, we and Virgin Media Payments will assume that you have accepted the increase in charges and the changes to the services and this agreement and you will no longer be able to cancel your services under this paragraph.
