Hi Folks!
I noticed with the use of a dreambox that there are normally only one or two channels showing on demand content to the end user locally.
I know some of the cable companies in the states are using this new switching technology to deliver lots of HD channels. It works by only delivering the channel only when a viewer in that area requests it.
If Virgin really has a capacity problem, why are they not using this new technology for more than just the VOD channels? Surely if they made all their channels “Switched”, they would have practically unlimited capacity?
Are there any really clever bods from Virgin on here who could explain why this has not been put in place? Surely it would be a cheaper option than replacing the whole network like they said they would be doing from next year.

I do apologise if there is already a thread on this.
A few months ago the media reported that new sky and Virgin bosses where in discussions with regards to returning the channels that sky removed from virgins platform.
Well now its all gone very quiet, does any one have any news?

It would just seem to me a simple way for VirginMedia to satisfy their customers apitite for HDTV, without adding any external HD Channels (Sky, C4 or itvHD).
Is for Virgin to launch their own VMTV HD channels (LivingHD, BravoHD or Virgin1HD) or launch a single VMHD channel, pooling the HD content from their VMTV channels

Virgin Media is to decide on whether to offload its content division imminently, according to reports.
Virgin Media TV, formerly Flextech, comprises a 50% stake in UKTV, the advertising sales unit IDS and channels such as Living and Bravo.
Thought id post this for anyone interested, article goes on to say that it could be as early as Friday that a decision will be made.
Personally i reckon they’ll be willing to sell their UKTV share, but will keep hold of their other channels (Living, V1 etc), along with IDS. Thoughts anyone?
