I don’t understand why some people hate Sky so much TV Programmes

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

There are a lot of people on this forum who hate Sky. Why ??
I had ITVd, which was diabolical, and switched to Sky. My son, in his room upstairs has my 2nd subscription, and for £24.50 each per month we have all the sports and film channels, 90+ other channels, superb quality of picture, and no problems whatsoever. So why are so many of you against Sky ? I would love to know……..

Why ITV Digital went bust, why they will survice + dont blame Sky! Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

The reason why ITV Digital went bust is simple – they paid £300m or £100m a season for Nationwide football that nobody wants to see! I would just like to point out what GOOD value ITV Digitals contract with Sky was – £65m a year for Sky One, Sky Premier, Sky Moviemax, Sky Sports 1,2&3. WOW! So for just two thirds of the price of Nationwide football ITV Digital get their hands on Premiership, FA Cup & International football, two excellent film channels with the most recent movies and Sky One with the latest American programmes. I think this is a bargain! This is also the reason that once ITV Digital have been declared bankrupt Carlton & Granada will instantly buy it back (having got rid of the debts and commitment to paying £100m yearly to the Nationwide league) and re-launch it, this time wholly owned and suported by the parent companies. Without this £100m a year commitment ITV Digital can be a very successful business – £65m for all of those excellent channels is very good value for money and ITV Digital will continue! Basically whoever signed up for the Nationwide football made one of the biggest business mistakes of all time… the sad thing is it is as always the innocent people that will suffer (football league clubs). For all of us with ITV Digital though – DONT WORRY – it will continue exactly the same BUT without the ITV Sport channel!

Why don’t the government just step in?? Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Maybe I am just being a bit to simplistic, but if the government were to foot the £180 million bill to the FA, and therefore hold the TV rights, it could then show all matches in the clear and give the public a real reason to buy the new FTA boxes.

The FA would benefit – It gets its cash and the clubs are saved.

The public would benefit – Football matches in the clear.

ITV digital would benefit – it is saved from complete failiure and could continue without the sports element.

The Government would benefit – It would be seen to have saved both the FA and ITV digital and many jobs (perhaps a few votes there) and will aid the digital revolution.

The only fly in this ointment may be that some may kick up a fuss about taxpayers money being used (even though £180 million is a drop in the ocean in public finances). If that is the case then the money can come from the lottery commission. After all, it would be far cheaper than the dome.

Any thoughts?

Why don’t they just… Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

It surprises (more than surprises actually) me that ITVD have been practically giving stb’s away for folk to basically make off with to use illicitly !

Why have they not taken this to issue before now?

It is rumoured that new , better encryption etc will be introduced soon (at long last)!

But why oh why did they wait so long?

Why did they not just go the way of the pay as you go phone cards, which seems to appeal to so many people?

Instead of practically giving away hardware (& services) why didn’t they leave people to buy their own stb and just sell decently protected pay as you go cards?

These cards might last a month, or might alternatley provide a set viewing time of certain channels.

I admit, my interest in all this is new, and I would appologise in advance if these questions and suggestions are common.

Anyhow I am pleased they seem to be trying, if it is a little late in the day!

I’d be sad to see them go.
