Dodgy STB Owners, Your Part in It’s Downfall Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

For anyone who owns one of those dodgy STBs, you are no doubt aware that you played your part in ITV Digital’s downfall. Not entirely, but a significant part none the less.

If these six clubs do go to the wall then on your consciounce be it.

If the Champions League deal goes the same way then you really will be knackered.

Pay specific attention to how he answers the question “How do you make good programmes?”

This man may be 89 today but he’s more in touch with the public than the current bunch at ITV”!

Were the mushy idents ITV’s downfall? Broadcasting

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

A little sily I know

But when ITV became itv, it seemed like it coincided with the massive drop in both audience and programe quality, so I just wondered whether or not idents are more important than many people imagine.

Whereas the old ‘classic’ ITV logo that I remember as a kid had authority and impact, the new ‘itv’ logo just seems…wet and pointless.

So obviously its the shows more than anything that ratings and dependant on, but is it possible that the logo has contributed to ITV’s downfall?

CH4’s “downfall” Broadcasting

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

This thread is for anyone who thinks Channel 4 have lost their way, how over the years in their constant pursuit of ratings they’ve continually dumbed down.

More Big Brothers than any other country in the world, Big Brother1,2,3,4,5,6,7, Teen Big Brother, Big Brother Panto, Celebrity Big Brother1,2,3,4.

It seems now that channel 4 have to wait for ITV to come up with something (could take a while) then they simply buy it, Paul o’grady, Richard and judy etc then the rest of the year they spread out big brother extending the running length longer each year and then a few usa imports.

Channel 4 were also the company that kicked off the terrestrial TV quiz channel craze, with the launch of Quizcall. Possibly the worst invention since crazy frog came to our screens, next month they’re planning to interrupt film four films with lengthy advert breaks for the first time. A channel that Ch4 used to pride itself on offering films uncut as the director intended them to be shown.

Ch4 used to be a classy channel like the BBC, where did it all go wrong? Should ch4 be funded by the TV license instead of chasing audiences to suit advertiser’s requests? Or is this the only way it can survive in the fragmented digital TV world we live in?

ITV’s “downfall” Broadcasting

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

There has been so much talk in recent days about ITV’s current problems.

Advertising revenue is down and, to please the shareholders, it seems cuts and losses must be made.

Instead of lots of threads on the many parts of the discussion I thought it might be helpful if there was one thread to discuss it all – in which anyone can contribute, “itv basher” or “itv lover”.

So… Is this the start of a downward spiral for ITV? Is this something that could/should have been avoided? and How can they avoid further problems of a similar nature in the near future?

Anyone know how I can find out If/when Downfall is being shown again on More4? Their website seems to hint it is in the listings but can’t find any more details. Have tried Guideplus, Skys online prog. listings and even TV & Sat. Times but can’t find anything.
