DT Hard Drive Recording Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

I was thinking of getting a Tivo to record off my STB. Although the Tivo is easy to programme, I’m a little bit put off by the need to programme the STB as well (to change channel). I know that Sky+ doesn’t have this problem, but would’nt it be great if someone would come up with a FTA STB with an integral HD recording funtion, plus a twin tuner?

I don’t know if they exist in any other country, surely they would be popular in the UK?

What do you guys think?

Installation with a tarmac drive Virgin Media Broadband

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Hi guys,

I am switching to Virgin in a couple of weeks. When they do the installation I am wondering how they are going to run the cable to the house. I have a tarmac drive, so do they dig a trench, or run the cable along the edges?

Also, my PC/TV room is at the back of the house. Will they put the modem point in the back room, or do they always install it in a room at the front of the house?

Cheers

Copying from V+ to DVD/Hard Drive Virgin Media Broadband

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Hi

Is it possible to copy a programme from the V+ box to a DVD Recorder’s Hard Drive or to DVD. Is it straightforward? My V+ Box is connected via HDMi. Would I have to change this to SCART for it to work?

Thanks

Problem last night with TV-Drive /Broadband Virgin Media Broadband

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Got home last night to find my TV-Drive on channel 890 and the online light flashing. Everything else seemed to be fine apart from I could not access teleport or any interactive services.

I also found that my broadband was also down and my other set-top box interactive and teleport services are down.

I called up the faults line but they were unable to help or indicate there was a problem in the area. They have booked a tech for Friday morning. Anyone have any idea what the tech will try? Hope he does not want to replace my box. I have lots on it!!

Anyone else ever have this problem.

Sorry for posting in this in the TV-Drive forum if you think it is not TV-Drive related.

TV Drive – recordings delete but names of programmes still listed!?!? V+ HD

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Hi
I have had a TV Drive box since March 2006 when it first came out.
About a year ago, when I deleted programmes from the list of recordings the programmes would delete and their names. However, while the recording space was freed up the names of the recordings would reappear not long after!
For some reason around Christmas 2007, I think maybe due to an update, my box seemed to sort itself out so when you deleted a programme both the actual recording and the name of the programme were deleted.
Bizarrely the box has recently gone back to its old ways. Basically, I’ve got 67 hours of free space according to the box but 8 pages of recorded programmes, the names of which won’t delete.
I know it does not affect the recording space but it’s just annoying.
Has anyone had this problem?
I know that the way round it is to do a full factory reset rather than just pressing the reboot button but I’ve got 2 episodes of Heroes that I haven’t watched yet so cannot do the reset just yet!
Thanks.

getting a demo of Virgin HD Drive V+ HD

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Was in Currys today ostensibly to look aty Sky HD deal, and intially was impressed in that they seemed to have side by side the following for comparison..

Sky HD
Virgin HD drive
FreeSat

Great I thought, I have often been interested in at least seeing the virgin box, I am on their cable system for broadband and have been offered great deal on TV.

The box was powered, lights on, and a virgin screen on an LCD tv on shelf above. A Point Of Sale info sheet was mounted on the top of the virgin box. I lifted it up the info page, and saw that the box was not connected up, nothing, zilch, only a power lead so the lights were on.

How useless

what a waste of shelf space, I guess they don;t have cable in store, but for the sales it could generate, you think Virgin would put a cable in to each branch of currys, give them and box and set it up for them. if punters could play with the box, they might start taking more business from Sky.

Do Virgin still supply the old telewest TV drive boxes? V+ HD

As the title says do they do this? Reason I ask is I’m getting on installed on Thursday and would prefer the silver look compared to the black one.

V+ or hard drive recorder…help V+ HD

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

I just joined Virgin and I have TV size M from them which means that I have just regular box and not V+ In my old place I use to record tv programes on free view hard drive recorder but now with Virgin looks like there is only one way and this is to get V+ for whatever sum right now and monthly extra £5 which I have to avoid (somebody is paying for me and I can’t add cost). I can pay upfront or something like that I just can’t add cost to my bill. I spoke to Virgin and they don’t want to hear. Only way is their way.
Is there way to buy their box on ebay ? Do you think it will work on my size M package ? Or is there some kind of hard drive recorder with epg and option to record 2 programs at once which I can hook to my Virgin box ? Thank you…
