Installation fee – when do I pay? Cable

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

I’ve just booked an upgrade to go with my existing 10mb broadband – XL TV, V+Box and M phone (£39) and was given the offer price of £49 for installation/one off fee.

But when do I actually pay this – I presume when they’ve actually installed it…?

Paper Bill Fee from 1st March Cable

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

Unfortunatly I can’t confirm where I got this from but apparently Virgin will be joining the Mobile Companies and removing their current discount for recieving a ebill and issuing a £1.50 fee to those who get paper ones.

From 1st March. Sorry if its already been posted.

BBC/Castle Crown + Licence Fee Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

If the BBC/CC bid were to get the bid, is there any reason why Licence Fee money could not be used to give homes that have low income a FREE DTT box? After all, its a TV Licence, not a BBC Fund licence, just that they seem to gobble up the majority of the cash. That could get DTT take up started. Hey , why not give all Licence Fee payers 1 box free per house. Surely with buying that many, and making no profit on it, it would not cost much to make the converter box.

V+ install fee V+ HD

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Hi all,

A friend of mine is with Sky but is having real problems with contention on the broadband, and has been looking at getting Sky+. He’s had a go on my V+ and the TVOD/iPlayer etc. He was also pretty impressed at the speed of my broadband (even though I am only on 2MB).

He rang up Sky to have a grumble about the broadband, he also mentioned he was looking at VM, they have offered him Sky+ for free.

Unfortunately VM don’t seem to want to budge on the £150 install fee, they only offered him £30 off installation, understandably this going to be a dealbreaker as he’s going to live with the broadband issue if he can get Sky+ for free.

Anyone know if VM could be convinced to drop the install fee? It seems a shame for them to lose a new customer (who would be stolen from Sky) and bring in probably £50+ per month (he’s mad on sports).

Fair enough, Sky+ is £150 to new customers too, but with the V+ it’s not even yours to keep at the end of the contract so I don’t see how VM can justify it. It’s a great product but a bit of a hard sell at £150 installation.

I was wondering whether it was worth ringing VM myself actually.

Any thoughts/advice appreciated.

Cheers
Steve

The £100 Fee V+ HD

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Hello.

I just phoned up and paid my £100 to get my v+ fee free (I’m on XL)

What a palarva! through to the indian call centre who

1) had no idea what I was talking about at first,
2) then said “Did you pay for the installation?” (don’t you know that kind of thing?)
3) then asked when I wanted my new V+ box to be installed
4) then asked if I wanted my current V+ box to be taken away
5) said “OK, I’ll charge £150″
6) eventually sorted it out.

6 steps which could have easily been avoided if the staff had been briefed properly.

Usually I find the indian staff fairly easy to understand, but I could only make out every 3rd sentence – and asking for constant repetitions isn’t easy in when I’m sneakily calling from the office!

Ah well, lets see what the next bill brings.

Hows everyone elses experiences of trying to pay the £100?

No V+ installation fee! V+ HD

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Has everyone seen this?

http://allyours.virginmedia.com/webs…ct.do?id=11039

If I interpret it correctly, new AND existing customers can have the 3 for £30 offer, with Setanta sports and TV:XL (12 months) and get the V+ box installed FREE!
(Offer ends: 31.10.07)

I’m on the phone soon as I get home!

Is there anyway of getting V+ without (or lower than) the £150 install fee? V+ HD

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

I’m only interested in it for the HD element really, and the £5 a month thing isn’t so bad despite there being just one channel and some VOD content (which the quality I need to look up anyway) but I’m not paying £150 for the box as I don’t really need a PVR right now. £50 or so is fair enough, but anymore than that and its asking a bit much.

Ive been with them for 3 years, 2 years on my current contract and I’ve moved flat in the last month and brought them with me, on Large TV and XL broadband. I’ve never seen close to the full 20mbit and I’ve used plenty of fat pipes to feed it so I could always bitch about that aspect if needed…

V+ Monthly Fee V+ HD

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Virgin seem to have changed the installation/monthly fee for the V+ box numerous times recently and I’m now competely confused.

The website now says that the installation fee for XL package is £150 and no monthly fee.

Am I going mad or did it recently say that to get rid of the monthly fee you had to pay £100 upfront?

So assuming that the monthly fee has been dropped and I already have a V+ box installed when can I actually expect to see the £10 monthly fee disappear from my bill? My lastest bill is for 22 June – 21 July and it still has a £10 V+box charge.

Poll suggestion:- V+ up front fee or monthly fee V+ HD

Just to see what DS users prefer.

£150 up front fee, then £5/0 a month.

£15/10 a month.

Scrapping of the £10 per month fee for V+ V+ HD

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Just read the article on the above…

I’m on the XL TV package, so I understand that I could now get the V+ box for no additional fee per month.

BUT, am I correct in thinking that as an existing customer I’d have to ;

a) pay an up front fee of £100

b) pay £75 installation (as I live in a flat, and would need the existing set top box replacing, I have no room for an additional set top box)

…totallying a £175 total payout?
