V+ box swapping back to SCART from HDMI V+ HD

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Hi, just sold my HD LCD TV and while I wait for my new one to arrive I’ve hooked up a 19″ non-HD LCD TV via SCART to my V+ box.
Trouble is, I previously had the V+ box setup via HDMI and 1080 resolution.
Now the non-HD TV is connected it won’t show a picture via SCART How do I force V+ back to SCART output and non-HD resolutions ?

Any help appreciated. Thanks

HDMI probs – Unsupported Video Mode V+ HD

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Hi – can you please help?

I’ve just setup my new Philips 42” 7603 TV and I’m trying to get the HD signal working. Unfortunately I keep getting an ‘Unsupported Video mode’ message when I switch to the TV to the HDMI source. I’ve tried 720, 1080, 720 wide and 1080 wide but still the same message.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Does V+ upscale std broacasts via HDMI? V+ HD

Will be getting an HD TV in the sales and wondered if standard non-HD broadcasts are effectively upscaled when watching via HDMI? In other words, is the picture better than when watching via SCART?

HDMI Cable from Virgin? V+ HD

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

I’m getting a HD TV next week, when I had my V+ installed last year I didn’t get a HDMI cable with it.

Could I ring Virgin and ask for one or will they charge me for it?

Thanks!

V+ & HDMI switch V+ HD

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Hi there

My Sony Bravia TV only has 1 HDMI input, I have a V+ box, DVD player and a PS3 which I want to connect to the TV. have tried the THOR HDC100 with remote control, the HQ AVSwitch22 4 into 1 with push buttons and the BANDRIDGE 2 into 1 with push buttons. I have also tried several others over the the past year but have had no joy. When connecting through any of the switches the PS3 works fine at 1080i/60 the DVD works at 720 but with the V+ box the TV keeps flashing the picture on and then off and when the picture is on the screen it is all snowy(like an old poor analogue signal) or it has coloured pixels over it.

I have asked Virgin Technical support but they say it is a problem with the switch not the V+ box so they wont help.

Any suggestions please

V+ – does it send 5.1 audio Via HDMI V+ HD

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Hi, just a quickie – Does the V+ box send 5.1 audio via HDMI when watching BBC HD, or do I need to additionally connect V+ and Home Cinema amp using a digital optical cable??

If I need the additional cable do I need to amend any of the settings on the V+ box??

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

V+ HDMI Quality (on Toshiba 32c3030D) V+ HD

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Hi,

I have a Toshiba 32c3030D and I have been using a Toshiba 5800 Freeview PVR over SCART but I have just got a Virgin V+ box and connected it over HDMI.

The quality of the picture on the V+, even over HDMI isn’t as good as the Freeview box over SCART which is really surprising as I thought even if you couldn’t tell the difference the V+ would be better as it’s over cable instead of aerial and HDMI instead of SCART.

I think the main problem is it seems a bit “blockey” and distorted around movement – particularly around the edge of people’s heads…

Is this normal for Virgin / V+ or is it something else?

There are a load of settings you can change on the TV but I dont know where to start – also I can’t work out which works best on the V+ – 720 Wide or 1080 Wide? – both seem to work but I can’t work out which is better quality.

Thanks

Ian

Is audio carried in the HDMI lead? V+ HD

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

I am looking at options to get a HD signal to my projector. Obviously the V+ has HDMI but my pj has DVI-D. So my options are:HDMI – DVI-D lead
HDMI – HDMI lead with DVI converter on the end
DVI-DVI lead with HDMI converter on the end

All of thats ok. But what do I do about the audio? I have a surround sound system that I want to connect the audio to. Without looking around the back of the AV cabinet I dont know if the V+ has audio out and whether these are disabled when you use HDMI (like scart seems to be, unless thats changed again).

Any heads up on this would be great.
