Where’s the Cable News headline gone? Cable

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

Well…? There used to be a headline up there telling us the latest cable news. It’s been missing for a week at least I reckon.

Other forums seem to have their news, so where is ours?

Does anyone even care?

Given the way that CNN’s secomd domestic network has changed from its original format, this is probably a good move.

Jon Stewart parodies the revamped CNN Headline News in 2001 Broadcasting

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Very amusing clip with Jon Stewart of The Daily Show (More4 in the UK) making fun of the Headline News re-vamp in 2001. CNN brought in actress Andrea Thompson as a prime-time anchor to try and attract younger viewers, and introduced wizz bang graphics. Andrea Thompson only lasted a few month and the graphics were toned down and made smaller.

Disgusting headline on ITV news Broadcasting

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Just a few seconds ago, actually (though I’ve forgotten most of it by now) :

“A court hears how this man (photo showing) was allegedly murded in his million pound home by a burglar.”

That’s the gist of it, and it’s sad, but why is it national news when that kind of thing never usually is? Why is it a headline? Same reason the murdered London lawyer was news: He’s rich and therefore is valuable and better than the rest of us.

All the news organizations do it, but good God, that was blatant.

CNN Headline news signs up new Conservative host Broadcasting

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Quote:

CNN’s Headline News has signed conservative radio host Glenn Beck for an hourlong talkshow in hopes of building on the ratings momentum generated by a revamped primetime lineup anchored by “Nancy Grace.”

Rest of the article can be seen at http://www.variety.com/article/VR111…8&cs=1&s=h&p=0

So the article says that the reasoning behind this decision is to win more viewers from O’Reilly and FOX news. Naturally in business terms this seems like this could potentially work. However what this seems to indicate is that the newschannels in the US are now more concerned with ratings rather than quality of output. Hence we have a new conservative host. I never expected it from CNN, I’ve always seen it as a trustworthy, objective and impartial newstation. But this hiring could potentially add the radio show style and conservative bias. Newschannels should stay away from this bias – conservative and liberal alike. They should remain comitted to delivering the news.
