Monkey ad value for money Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

I cannot believe that the monkey ad was or is value for money, The advertising campaign must have run into millions of pounds and I cannot see how this is justified. A good product will always sell by reputation, word gets around very quickly, and I would say at the moment the reputation of ITVD is at an all time low. If anyone came round my house some nights when theTV is on and the ITVD picture is acting up I don’t believe the monkey or that couch potato thing, or even Des Lynam would encourage anyone, even the most naive person, to get an ITVD box when half the picture is missing and the sound cracks up. As far as I am concerned money thrown down the drain, which could have been spent improving the service to the customers they have, then by reputation their customer base would rise. You can always sell good apples but not rotten apples even if you do put a monkey sticker on them.

Value for Money? Freeview

It is time to sit back and look at what exactly do we get for our money from ITVDigital.
(a) Nearly all channels carry lots of advertising.
(b) There are no programmes especially made for the digital platform only.
(c) Nearly all programmes are repeats which have been on somewhere or another dozens of times before.
(d) On top of the subscription there is the added cost of the Select channels, films, sport , etc. if you wish to view these channels
Why we pay so much money, I cannot understand. I could if these channels carried no advertisements or thousands of pounds were being spent on new original programmes but all we basically get are old programmes that have been shown over and over again and have been paid for ages ago by either the original adverts or the TV licence. Some of these programmes were made years ago and have already been repeated many times on the analogue terrestrial channels. Plus the fact that there are many people whose reception quality of these programmes leave a lot to be desired.
Digital TV, for what we get, is very expensive hobby.

I hope ITVDigital will soon fill the space left by Wellbeing and CFN or it won’t take very long for Sky to find a suitable ad campaign to suit and that will be all we need for a big churn

ITV want your money (NOW) Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

I was talking to a senior sales rep in a very well known High St retail outlet this weekend concerning ITV Digital boxes. He was saying that monthly contract boxes are now almost a thing of the past on the High St. Nearly, if not all large retail outlets will only be offering a pre-paid ITV digi box from now on. He went on to say that ITV want it this way so as to maintain cash liquidity. Thing is, if they do go toes up, the average Joe in the street can kiss goodbye to their hard earned cash. You can still get the monthly contract boxes direct from ITV Digital. I think if I was to put my toe back in the ITV Digital water, then a monthly contract is the only thing I would consider.

What to do with Simply Money Freeview

Simply Money has had the plug pulled on it, and is set to become another shopping channel. Given that it’s set to become Simply Shopping on April 16th…

…I think we should start a discussion on what should replace it. Personally, I’d go for putting on Bloomberg in its place; a real money channel.

E4, money for nothing? Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

I’m a Sky viewer (sorry to intrude) and I’m v annoyed at being asked to fork out an extra £9pm for E4. I wouldn’t mind if they were offering something new but they’re not, just programmes that were available cheaper elsewhere before they came along. What is the situation at OnDigital and what do people feel about it (apart from gloating over the Sky situation that is)?
