Vod more popular than Five? Virgin Media TV On Demand

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Now i’m going to leave the HD part of the article to the HD board and just concentrate of this one bit that he mentioned:

Quote:

Yesterday Berkett said the strategy was going well – subscribers now spend more hours watching VoD than linear channel Five – but admitted the “need to educate consumers and drive experimentation” in order to push the service.

taken from: Virgin: We only need one HD channel

Now I cant remember where but I do remember a few months that I read this and Five kicked off about it. Has VoD actually now passed Five or is this VM once again making a mess of things and will have to rephrase it in a few days time?

The Wire (More Series?) Virgin Media TV On Demand

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

The Wire is the best police series on tv EVER!!!, okay lets be honest Homicide:Life on the Street was pretty good too!!

Series 1 is available on VM on-demand, so my main question is will further series of this MOST EXCELLENT and complex TV show be on Virgin on demand?

And what about the later Series of Homicide:Life on the Street which weren’t shown on ch4, I’d pay to watch that show it was so good! (as long as it was less than £1 an episode).

Towards the end of The Wire there were many links to Homicide with the same actors.

I hope more episodes of The Wire appear on Viirgin OD as on FX UK its a sadly overlooked show.

Hello all

I am currently on a grand tripple package with L BB, XL TV, M Phone, this comes in at £44. I phoned up and was told I could have XXL broadband for an extra £10 (£80 install fee )

When I went to selfcare it said XXL was £52 (extra £27) – so which one is correct and is there anyway to reduce the install fee (will it come down in the future??)

Ta, Shane.

If you are OWED MORE THAN £40 on you PRE PAY SUBSCIPTION Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

I don’t own a box but if I way a pre pay subscriber and say was owned £70 by ITV Digital then I think you should draft a letter asking for your money back.

If they say no then you should say that you are one of the people who are owed money from Grant Thornton and as there is NO HIERACRICHAL order in who gets paid first from Grant Thornton, and that you will gladly under write what you are owed from Grant Thornton (£70) if they under write the cost of the box (£40).
It is basically called underwriting and if you are owed more than £40 you can underwrite what you are owed with what they value the box.

So basically if you took out on ITV Digital Pre Pay box and it closed before the 12 months of pre pay was used up and the money lost to you is over £40 then you should do what is said above.

More Box Troubles Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Hi
After practically fixing the troubles I was having with my philips On digital box (http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/…0&pagenumber=3)

The picture breakups have returned, however now that I have a remote I have access to the singaal strength meter. When it was working, the singal was green and hovered around the 2-2.5 mark. However things have started to go wrong(picture breakup) even though the singal strenth hasn’t changed.

Three things I have noticed :

1. When the singal stength is up around 3.5-4 (green) I have virtually no picture at all. Picture is more stable at lower strengths (around 2-2.5)

2 Using a signal booster that has a gain of 13db actually decreases the singal strength significantly (too about 1-2 red/yellow signal strength/quality.

Also very occasionally, the signal changes from ‘good’ to ’satisfactory’ in quality

Can anyone suggest what the solution might be? I am convined that the box is working as it has been almost flawlessly for the past 24-48 hours

My aerial is similar to this one at argos, however mine only has 7 elements(Cat.No. 535/6443):
http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/commer…cgrfnbr=379478

Without delibaratley lowering the gain on the signal the meter sits at around 3.5-4 at a ’satisfactory’ signal quality.

Any help would be greatly aprecciated.

Thanx

Huw

MORE channels on Freeview? Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

How much space is there left on DTT for other channels and services?

Ch14 is supposed to be reserved for Channel4. Debate is raging as to what Four will do with this.

Are there any other ’slots’ open for broadcasters?

There is one timeshared channel set aside for Turner (probably). Some sort of CNN/TCM/Cartoon Network hybrid. Why not a version of Turner’s entertainment channels; WBnetwork, TNT, TBS Superstation etc

Is five entitled to another slot? These days five is the UK arm of european RTL media empire. RTL runs multiple channels in most territories. And is one of the few groups worldwide capable of competing with Sky.

The idea of a Channel6 has been bandered about for quite a while. It always been assumed that SkyOne is/will fill that. Fact is we’re unlikely to see SkyOne on freeview because of its’ nature of being a free service. There has also been talk of sky launching a SkySix specifically for Freeview. I dont see that as likely either or even particularly necessary.

Scottish Media are likely to sell their interests in ITV off. However wouldnt they be interested in having a channel separate from Granada/Carlton. Who knows, maybe they’ll buy ITV2?

Between Flextech, Turner, Disney, SMG and RTL they must be able to inject some colour into Freeview, surely?

There are no independent;
Sports Channel
Movie Channel
kids Channel

In our multichannel world, these are all taken as read to be essential. There are great hopes for Freeview, but how do they expect people to be excited by DTT as it currently stands?

4 BBC Channels and the other ‘traditional’ terrestrial channels?
maybe…

but two identical music channels?
four news channels,
two travel agents,
shopping channel,

not exactly inspiring is it?

BBC1 Analogue broadcasts BBCNew24 during the night couldn’t they setup a new channel to show all day.

Wow! More new channels! Freeview

Watched a little of Sky News and Sky Sports News this morning and found out I could watch Sky One on channel 106 and repeats of a Wrestling PPV every 3 hours on channel 770.

Also the kind lady and gentleman on Sky Newws reminded I could press the red button and watch eight mini screens of the latest news.

Now, let me go and tune them in……

OK – a little tongue in cheek, but just as expected, Sky are using the platform to push Sky Digital…. what a suprise.
