outlook – ntl – sending emails Cable

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

I have an ntl email account and when away from home always have difficulty in sending emails. Changing the smtp seems to be whats required but are there any universal settings that can be applied so that I do not have to fanny around each time I am away from home?

Channel 52 ntl – What’s the point. Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Why does ntl continue to display the old itv digital line up programme listings?

What’s the point. It could be a useful channel if it was changed to the new line up as well as push ntl offerings. As it is its just a waste of space!

NTL Front Row adverts on ITV News Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Why are there NTL front row adverts on ITV news, not just advertising NTL or front row but “showing now on front row” type ads that would only make sense on NTL digital tv? does NTL provide the feed or something? And while i’m on the subject, what’s the NTL EPG doing on DTT? (channel 52) its similar to the one on NTL digital, has the same adverts but the actual listings dont work. I thought I was rid of NTL forever but they continue to haunt me!

Community Channel and NTL interactive – what ths point? Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Just something that I’ve been wondering about – what’s the point of the Community Channel and the NTL TV listings service?

Firstly, taking the Community Channel which will (according to their EPG data) broadcast from 3am to 5:30am. Will they get ANY viewers then or do they expect people to video it? Can a channel that broadcasts for 2.5hours really be called “a channel”?

The NTL interactive service is hopelessly out-of-date. It still shows the old ITVd channels (well, most of them) and before you say that they’re just waiting for Freeview, take a look – it still lists “Shop!” which was replaced by QVC quite some time before ITVd failed. It also includes other relics such as UK StyleHorizon – a bizare time-share channel which was UK Style Monday to Wednesday and UK Horizon Thursday to Sunday – this split about two years ago. Finally, it lists Discovery Kids & Wings which was replaced by the full Discovery channel in January. So, other than telling you what you are missing on Sky One, why bother?

Anyway, just my thoughts – should get a lively debate going if I know DS forums!

ntl Channel now has TV listings ! Freeview

title says it all

ntl Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

I know that the ntl channel is not known to be an official channel (not on the FTA list in shops like comet and dixons) but why cant it change its name to something like ‘Programme Guide’, then change its colour scheme to somit like blue’s. And then perhaps include the DVB logo (as there needt to be some form of identity to the platform. Then ntl can get their mention by putting a ‘powered by ntl’ logo in one corner – then this way all users of DTT and have the use of a good EPG no matter what box or idtv they use. I would like to see the aborigiony(sp?) man removed and the colour scheme changed then the MHEG can have some more space and im sure load things quicker, actually this one loads info quicker than the guide on ntl.

What are your thoughts on this?

NTL now phoning ITV Digital customers Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

[Apologies to anyone who's already seen this on the ONdigital mailing list:]

I’ve just had a phone call from the nice people at NTL.. they understand that I used to be an ITVdigital subscriber, and they’re keen to fill the gap left by their disappearance.

The deal is:

NTL will install digital cable in your home (no charge – a saving of £75), they’ll let you have their digital family pack (normally £26.99/month) which contains over 90 channels, for a year at half price (£13/month) if you also take up their telephone line (included in the cost) and their ‘Talkunlimited’ option (free local/national calls for £8/month).

An up-front payment of £25 by credit card is required, which is credited against your first bill.

Unsurprisingly I said I’d take it. (It’s a bloody good offer, IMHO) And I did my part to let them know that they probably won’t be able to go through with it – because I rang NTL yesterday and they swear blind that digital cable is not available to my postcode, just the analogue service. If they can install it, then that’s great – but I’m not hopeful..

Customer database sold to ntl Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

The list, which contains detailed information on everyone who subscribed to the now-defunct ITV Digital pay TV service, is the first asset to be sold off by administrator Deloitte & Touche.

Access to the database will allow NTL to target directly former ITV Digital customers who live in cable areas, via phone and post.

Administrator Nick Dargan is still in talks with possible buyers of ITV Digital’s other assets, including its stocks of set-top boxes, broadcasting equipment, the Plymouth call centre that once employed 400 people, the rights to the popular Monkey character and the 32,000 Monkey soft toys languishing in warehouses.
