I could have been really pis*** off…. Virgin Media TV On Demand

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

My box just crashed last night, so i called customer services after an hour of waiting for it to come back on because i thought it may been receiving an update of some sort. The screen was stuck on Virgin media powering up please wait…. after numerous reboots i ended up giving up after an hour waiting so i decided enough was enough and rang customer services, then i was waiting to speak to someone for near on 15 minutes So much for that watchdog survey I was really pissed off by this time. Luckily i got through to someone competent and they just re hit my box and within 5 mins it started flying through all these numbers on the panel and said your set top box i updating please wait. 10 mins later my channels were back. But then i found i had no ondemand services grrrrrrrrr!!!!! I rang them again after waiting a few hrs and luckily i now have them back after they sent me yet another hit. I suppose i’m lucky i didn’t have to have a tech out at least

Am I being ripped off? Cable

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

I currently have phone BB and XL TV (V+) box and Sky Sports, with loyalty pack discount.

I have just noticed on the VM website that Broadband L advertised at £14pm + 11pm (£25 total) for phone line rental, yet according to my bill am I paying £25pm for Broadband L plus £11pm phone line rental.

Will be giving VM a ring when I get home tonight.

VM ripping me off? Cable

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

I joined VM in November 2007 on the 3 for £30 off with a free upgrade to XL TV for 12 months. In November 2008 I was telephoned by Customer Relations and told that my bill was going up by £11 per month (as I was keeping XL TV), but as I was a loyal customer I was eligible for an extra £5 a month discount for 6 months. Unfortunately this was never applied to my account, however I rang them yesterday and have instead had my account credited with £30.

Now the thing is, my last months services were:

M Phone – £11
XL TV – £23
M Broadband – £20
Caller Display – £2
Bundle Discount – £-9.50

This totals £46.50 a month. However, according to this page: http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html…e-builder.html A new customer would be able to have XL Phone, XL TV, and XXL Broadband for £45 a month for the first 3 months and £57.50 a month after that. Just to upgrade my broadband to L would cost an extra £8, so god knows how much they would charge me if I wanted XL, XL and XXL! Am I missing something here?

What would be the best way to go about getting Virgin to give me this offer (excluding the £45 for the first 3 months, obviously)? I know that if I wrote a letter of complaint there would be a 99% chance that they would do this for me, however last time I wrote a letter to them it took a month for them to deal with the problem.

I am getting quite annoyed with VM at the moment. Whilst I was on the phone to them yesterday evening they tried to get me to upgrade to XL Phone (Talk Anytime). They did this because my call charges have been £30+ recently. This upgrade would have cost me around £7, but I would only have free calls to landlines. They failed to mention (although I already knew) that if I chose to have M Phone + Talk Anywhere 200 instead, I would only pay £9 extra but this would also cover calls to mobile numbers, which 50% of my calls are. Couple this with the fact that my average monthly calltime is about 180 minutes then it’s quite plain to see that I am better off with M Phone + Talk Anywhere 200 than I am with XL Phone!

It seems to me that the only way to get a good deal out of VM after your initial new customer deal, is to complain.

Moving; when do the services go off? Cable

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

Hello!

I’m moving flat and my installation date is set for tomorrow. When I arranged to move I was told the services in my current flat would switch off Sunday morning.

Well, here I am, watching Sky 1 and posting on DS; has something gone pear shaped? My installations with Virgin have never ever been straight forward! Should I phone them tomorrow when the lines open to check it’s all okay still?

Hope someone can reply and settle my nerves, I do a lot of my work online so problem could cost me quite a bit of money!

Thank you!

ftn switched off – moving to Ch15? Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Just been going through my channels and noticed that ftn are no longer broadcasting their MHEG (as it is after 6) but they have also stopped transmitting their usual “Launching January 15th” message. UkRunoutofideas is still displaying an MHEG on 21 but I was wondering whether this is a possibility that ftn will be moving to the ‘mysterious’ Ch15.

I hope so, because the gaps in the lineup are silly. I don’t mind 30, 31,32, 40, 41 as these channels are split into different categories – 30, Childrens; 40, News. what I do find silly is the gaps left in the 7 – 22. As S4C is not available in England, there is no point reserving Channel 8 for it. Channel 8 should not just appear blank. Does anybody know why exactly there are gaps in the numbers? Do they have to legally keep 13, 14, 15 free for the other muxes or something?

Anyway. Anyone else found ftn missing?

Turning off MHEG radio screens – through MHEG..? Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Here’s a good idea for the broadcasters.

Instead of forcing the savvy to use various ingenious workarounds ot get rid of the radio station MHEGs, (and the unsavvy to damage their TVs), why don’t the the radio stations have an option built into their MHEGs that can blank the screen?

Something like this would work – a little message underneath the station logo that says “To switch to screensaving mode PRESS RED”.

If the general public are going to be listening to radio through their TV for long periods of time without damaging their sets, something like this is essential.

Digital TV pays off – Electronics weekly Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Article in current edition of Electronics Weekly:

http://www.electronicsweekly.co.uk/i…/20/tech09.htm

Here’s a snippit of the sort of thing they are saying:

Durkin believes the collapse of ITV Digital and appointment of the BBC as service controller remains the best thing to have happened to digital terrestrial TV in the UK so far.

“ITV had taken away free-TV from the UK public,” says Durkin. “But there must always be one tier of free TV in the nation if digital terrestrial is to succeed.”

Sentiments also echoed by Adrian Gough, Grundig’s marketing director: “The BBC’s involvement is an enormously good step and overdue,” he says. “A couple of years ago the terrestrial digital industry was in a completely different position to what it is now having been hi-jacked by pay-TV and this left consumers with a negative view of the service. Basically, digital didn’t work before because people didn’t want to pay for it.”
