Government could force BBC to broadcast BBC Parliament in full Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

A last minute addition to the Communications bill published today gives the Government reserve powers to force platform operators to carry the 11 public service digital TV channels.

This would have the effect of forcing the BBC to cease discriminating against BBC Parliament’s viewers on DTT by requiring them to carry the same service as on DSAT and DCAB.

Can’t think who put this idea into their heads

Parliament Channel Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Hi
I am using a Grundig GDT1000 and, until the past few days, was receiving all available channels perfectly with very little if any breakup however over the last week the ‘Parliament’ channel has reverted to audio only with no video or mheg and the channel identtifier that comes up when the channel is selected but then disappears after a few seconds, stays on the screen.
I have tried ‘add new channels’ but the progress bar stops about half the way across. I am loathe to try ‘replacing existing channels’ in case I lose any more channels.
Does anyone have any experience of this problem?

Cheers R.S.H

Incidentally I am in Northampton and am using Sandy Heath

BBC Parliament – To be ¼ size Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Hi,
I don’t know wether this has been reported on here, but it was in the Daily Mail on Saturday 14/9/02 (which I finally got to read tonight ) that BBC Parliament will be in ¼ screen format on Freeview. It followed on by saying that the ITC was disappointed at this, but it didn’t seem like it would be taking any action.

Out of interest, does this allow any extra channels?

Sony IDTV and BBC Parliament Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Hi All,

I’m getting the MHEG and audio OK for this channel but failing to get the 1/4 screen video. When tuning tto the channel the TV announces ‘no video’ could this be because my TV hasn’t registered a video PID for this channel – I’ve not done a full update since the first 16-QAM day, although I have been manually adding new channels (e.g. 16 QAM BBC1…)

Any thoughts?

Sony Idtv & Bbc Parliament Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Deliberately starting a new thread – previous comments have become buried – sorry.

SONY UK have consistently refused to comment on the inability of their IDTV’s to revieve the 1/4 screen video on BBC Parliament, saying that all will be well when Freeview is ‘on air’. Well Freeview is ‘on air’ this morning and I get everything perfect EXCEPT this video on BBC PARLIAMENT. Not particularly critical, but as said in the past – if it’s there I should be able to receive it – and (wisely ????) I have paid rather more that the £99 box that is now available. Friends who have paid £79 in John Lewis for a Grundig Box get it fine.

Has anyone else with a SONY IDTV who couldn’t get it before now managed to get it.? Is there anyone with a SONY IDTV can get it?

BBC Parliament Freeview

Seems to be getting stuck on data service loading. I have tried it on my PACE FTV and my Grundig and both have sound but stuck on loading screen. Can someone see if this is happening with their’s as well. I am pointing towards Bluebell Hill.

BBC Parliament – extremely quick… Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Anybody else noticed how quick the new BBC parliament service loads?

On my ex-ITVD Pioneer box the text and graphics appear almost as soon as the channel has been selected – Am I right in thinking that this is the same system that provides our DTT text service, and if so how come this is so quick to load and out text is so slow.

It makes me wonder if it’s not just the speed of the box that governs the speed of our text…

Any thoughts?

BBC4/CBeebies/BBC Parliament ceased broadcasting in 64QAM Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

channel 801 has gone completely blank and 802/803 now show MHEG’s saying the channels have moved and a rescan is necessary to view them.
Sorry if this has appeared on another thread

Should BBC Parliament be broadcast properly on DTT rather than as a digital radio station on DTT?
