Skip to part of program in minutes Virgin Media TV On Demand

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Can anyone tell me if its possible to skip to part of a programme in minutes on catchup tv, we do not have V+ just the standard box, while watching a programme the other night 10mins from the end it froze and we had to start from scratch, both me and the missus could not be arsed to fast forward 45mins at snails pace to get to where we were so gave up. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Nationwide Football Highlights Program Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Sorry if this has been bought up before, just thought that a good way of attracting people to DTT could be by having a highlights program on a BBC channel or maybe on Sky Sports News.

Now that Sky have the rights and are with the BBC for FTA DTT it could be a major asset to them. I for one would like to see a highlights program, any thoughts on this issue?

Re-program boxes Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

As the new Nokia Mediamaster FTV box is as Nokia say ‘Based on ITV Digital set top box specification’ and looks like a 9850T spray painted silver, what are the chances of being able to get the software from the new box and replace the software on the black ITVD boxes with it?

Nokia’s software download page allows downloads of new software for other MediaMaster machines which can be upgraded by serial connection to a PC… so there must be a chance of doing this?!?!?

Speed Test Report

ISP Speed Tester – for ntl:World
By Daniel Elwell – dannyelwell2001@msn.com
———————————————————————————————-
These results are only a snapshot of this particular moment. They are dependant on any other Internet use on this computer and any delays on the Internet. To improve accuracy, run the test several times.
———————————————————————————————-

Section 1: General Ping Results
A Ping test is the time taken for a server to reply to a request

ntl:World Server:
20.75ms – Normal – it’s about right!

UK Server 1 (www.demon.net):
20.75ms – Normal – it’s about right!

UK Server 2 (Manchester Access Point):
54.75ms – Slightly off, but not worth complaining about

UK Server 3 (www.ic24.net):
24.25ms – Normal – it’s about right!

USA East Coast Server (www.yahoo.com):
96.25ms – Fast – very fast response

USA West Coast Server (www.lycos.com):
102.75ms – Fast – very fast response

European Server (www.marcopoly.com):
24.25ms – Excellent – better than expected

———————————————————————————————-

Section 2: Custom Server Ping Results
These results are to four user-definable servers.

Barrysworld Counter-Strike:
27.5ms

Blueyonder Team-Fortress Classic:
24ms

Onlinefrag Half-Life Deathmatch:
24ms

Blueyonder Unreal Tournament:
31ms

———————————————————————————————-

Section 3: Download Speed Results
Three downloads are tested; one from a ntl:World server, one through the ntl:World Cache and one through an alterntive cache. This will give you an idea of how capable your connection is and how well the ntl:World Caches are performing.

ntl:World Server Download:
68KB/s (544Kb/s) – Perfect – just right for a Cable Modem

Download through ntl:World Cache:
59KB/s (472Kb/s) – Average – although higher should be achieved

Download through alternative Cache (webcache.bt.net):
65KB/s (520Kb/s) – Perfect – just right for a Cable Modem

* It appears that the alternative cache is working better than the ntl:World cache. To improve Web Browsing, set the Proxy Server in your Web Browser to webcache.bt.net on port 3128*
———————————————————————————————-

Section 4: Packet Loss
50 Ping Requests are sent to your server. The packet loss is measured by how many of the packets don’t bounce back to the client. High packet loss may slow down your connection.

50 packets were sent, 50 bounced back; 0% loss (estimated)
Fantastic – no packets dropped!
———————————————————————————————-

Program guide salad V+ HD

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

I belive it is time that Virgin simplified the guide system they offer to be clearer. To keep going through sub menus to find different HD content and to not be able to find forthcoming epesodes of programs without an alphebetical search or at least an A to Z listing is primative.

Surely a HD World Section along with a clearer on demand menu where all channes offerings are listed corectly unlike dumb titles such as more on demand (Confuses some with more4 etc) as well as making you wonder why hav a more on demand menu when the items could be comprehensively broken down better.

Either a Look at tiscali or tivos offerings would help a team that seem to have lost their way.

I am sure many people would also like to look at the complete offerings for a channel for a week in a vertical format eg when choosing which movies to record or other potential offerings on frequently watched channels.

Am I alone?

V+ Multiple Program Test V+ HD

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Since a lot of you here seem to insist that your V+ does not give you recording clashes when it shouldn’t, here’s a little test for you. Setup the series links to match mine on sunday night, and see if you get the same clash as mine:

http://www.timb0.co.uk/v+fail.jpg

Since all of the programmes are only on 2 channels, then that should only use 2 tuners right? Should record fine, but it wont.
