Why are Virgin so slow in adding to its HDVOD selection Virgin Media TV On Demand

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

I can’t remember the last time a new series was added in the high definition VOD section or in the more on demand section.

For a company that is allegedly concentrating on supplying VOD rather thatn linear HD channels, you would think that the library would me updated at least weekly.

Virgin will never catch Sky where HD linear channels are concerned, so why not hit them were it hurts and beef up the HDVOD section.

Selection Of Channels Freeview

I heard that you can pick any six channels on ITV Digital for a certain price. Is this so, and if it is what channels does every one subscribe to?

AV1 channel selection when TV is switched on V+ HD

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

I have recently had a V+ installed – and when the tv was switched on it would always come on with AV1 it now switches on whatever channel it was turned off (hope this makes some sense – apologies if not). I have even tried to amend the setings to switch to on the selection that TV auto-detects V box (SCART) but the setting does not stay on after pushing the ok button to save the changes. Does anybody know how I can change the default channel back. Many thanks.

EMAP Channel Q No Longer Uses Selection Numbers And Phone Ins Virgin Media TV and Phone

Friday, February 20th, 2009

I’ve noticed this week, and I have noticed the Teletext content today, but I’m not sure when they removed the selection numbers from the bottom of the screen and from Teletext. Surely if they are no longer going to have people phoning in to request music videos, how will they make any money? I’m not complaining though. It makes the screen look less cluttered with less screen furniture.

Browse channel selection bug? (Original ntl: 5.32a software) Virgin Media TV and Phone

Friday, February 20th, 2009

When checking which channels I had and hadn’t got earlier after my upgrade to the Family pack, I was using Browse.

I had Browse open, and was pressing the left cursor key then Select to select the channel. (I was doing this instead of pressing “Channel -” so that I could select channels I wasn’t subscribed to and get the ‘you are not subscribed’ message).

At least twice, the banner at the top of the screen updated for the new channel, but the box kept displaying the channel I was last on. Repeating the channel selection forced the box to display the correct channel.

Known bug, my box being weird, or something breaking with today’s launch of more channels?

Telewest channel selection with new software Virgin Media TV and Phone

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Come the arrival of the new STB software, what am I to do?

I have provided my old Dad with a Telewest cable box because his analogue signal is awful, so cable was the answer for a good stable picture. At present I have set up the favourites so that the five terrestrial networks are selected by pressing a single button on the handset, 1 to 5 as ever. No problem. Teaching him to switch the TV to ‘AV’ mode was something else; several months on this still causes problems but it’s mostly OK.

How on earth am I going to solve the problem of the upcoming software requiring a three digit entry to change a channel? How do you explain to a chap in his late eighties that all this technology (which is supposed to make life simpler) requires that he press three or more buttons to switch between the FIVE channels he watches?

While this may sound petty and to some, stupid, anyone with aged parents will appreciate what I am up against here.

Can the team think of solutions to simplify the issue sufficiently for an old gentleman who is not thick by any means, but simply not in tune with the somewhat perverse ways of modern techno-crap.
