Why are Virgin so slow in adding to its HDVOD selection Virgin Media TV On Demand

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

I can’t remember the last time a new series was added in the high definition VOD section or in the more on demand section.

For a company that is allegedly concentrating on supplying VOD rather thatn linear HD channels, you would think that the library would me updated at least weekly.

Virgin will never catch Sky where HD linear channels are concerned, so why not hit them were it hurts and beef up the HDVOD section.

slow grundig software? Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Hi. Just got my grundig gdt 1500 today, and I have a question for owners of this box or the 1000.

do different software versions make a difference to channel changing speed? I ask this because my new box is actually quite a bit SLOWER changing channels than my ex-ITVD pioneer. did previous versions work quicker?

Slow switching between channels… Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

I’ve got a Phillips ex-OnDigital box, and since the BBC channels have gone to 16QAM, I’m finding that it takes an age to change between these channels and the 64QAM ones. It’s probably about 5 or so seconds, and I was just wondering whether this is likely to remain the case, ‘cos I can see people getting fed up of this because it makes scanning through channels pretty laborious!

Why is DTT Text so slow? Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Personally I never found DTT Text slow, but then I tried a SKY service and huge images load within 0.5 seconds. What makes DTT so slow? Is it the MediaGuard software? Can DTT Frequencies only work at this speed? Is it the MHEG version the boxes use? Is it the box? Does anyone know why it is so slow and whether it can be improved?

Anyone else having probs or is it just the world wide wait?

Why does ebay slow me down? Virgin Media Broadband

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

I have Vrgin 10mb broadband and it works really well – until I look at ebay. Every time I use it the system just grinds to a halt every time I click any page on ebay. I’ve never had this with any other site I’ve looked at. Is it just me or does this happen with anyone else? It’s extremely annoying.

Strangely Slow 10Mb BB (Thought i’d share this) Virgin Media Broadband

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Friday Morning 6th Feb could not connect to BB, switched off the modem and router then back on again and connection was back up.
Great i thought, then i did a speed test at thinkbroadband only to find my normal 9.1Mb’s was down to 500k and the IP addy had changed. Left it for the day taking various tests but none were above 500k.
Switched everything off over night but all was still the same this morning (Saturday) so made contact with Virgin Media very helpful chap called Craig.
He went through various checks only to discover that it was only slow when using IE or Firefox (ping times of 150ms), when i pinged BBC.co.uk in DOS the ping time was excellent 13ms if i remember. We were then both baffled as to what was going on.
As i was wireless he suggested to eliminate the router this meant moving the PC back down stairs so he left me to do that which i did but was still the same.
Then the penny dropped i thought what could be controlling IE and Firefox……. a firewall perhaps, Virgins own PC GUARD to be exact.
Although the PC had been shut down over night actually right clicking on the PC Guard icon and clicking EXIT brought my speed back up to 9Mb instantly and after restarting PC Guard all is still well, i have no idea why it did it but if anyone else is having problems then it may well be down to PC Guard.
Just hope my experience may help someone else out there.
Oh and if Craig from Virgin is out there and reads this many thanx for your help.

Slow Saturday Nights Virgin Media Broadband

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

I’m in the Edinburgh area and have 10mb broadband. Nearly every Saturday evening, this slows down between about 8p.m. and midnight to really, really slow. It’s so slow that I usually just stop using it because it’s not worth waiting.

Does anybody else get this? Is it just because there are a lot of people using it? I could understand if it happened when they all got home from the pub, but it’s earlier than that.
