BBC2 in 14:9 with 4:3 broacasts with pace DTVA + sony widescreen Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Over the last couple of days, i’ve noticed that when watching BBC2 on my widescreen sony, when they are broadcasting a 4:3 picture (like the american version of the weakest link on right now) my Pace DTVA seems to be putting the TV into 14:9 mode, even if I manually select 4:3 on the TV remote and switch channels to BBC1 and back to BBC2, it makes the TV go into 14:9 mode. anyone else experiencing this? I think they are transmitting the wrong AFD code. 4:3 pictures on five and ITV make the TV go into 4:3 mode as expected.

Sony Idtv Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

I haven’t yet done a store channels. Before I do can anyone say what happens to the 3 number channels – 100/800 series that have been referred to. The Sony IDTV only has 99 available and 90 onwards has previously been reserved for the Analogue channels.

Any ideas

Sony IDTV problem Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

I watch DTT on a Sony IDTV. I am picking up from Sudbury. Things have been ok up to now with only slight pixiation. The last couple of days when I switch channels from Freeview or Hits to BBC1 or BBC2 I lose the sound and the picture breaks up and “poor signal quality” comes up. I then have to press the channel again to get things back to normal. I guess it is when I change back to the Mux with BBC1 and BBC2 on. Any one else experienced this?

Hi All,

If you have a Sony IDTV and have scanned for channels, but still unable to get channels 701, 702 and 703 heres what you need to do:

1) Press the i button on your remote to call up the N & N EPG
2) Press the Blue button to go to the setup menu
3) Select the Detailed Setup option
4) Select Manual Tuning
5) Choose a channel which has no service stored
6) Using the search bar search either up or down until in the box on the right hand you see channels 701, 702 and 703!!
7) press select to store the channel

Please note:

a) You will have to do this for channels 701, 702 and 703
b) Method may vary depending on the model of your Idtv and the software version!!

Hope it helps – Mike R

Sony – is there an active channel to UHF output option? Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Hi all,

Just got a new Sony KD-28DX40U on warranty replacement after my Bush 6690D packed up at 2 years 11 months in a 3 year warranty. :-) Argos said they couldn’t reapir it (didn’t even try) so offered me a replacement IDTV of my choice. Apart from the Parliament issue which may or may not get resolved one day, Sony seemed a better brand going forward.

One thing I liked about the Bush was that it output the viewed channel on a UHF channel of your choice. I then fed this up another aerial link to another room. I can’t seem to see if this is possible with Sony. Anyway know?

It’s not too much of an issue as I bought Sky+ after the lights got turned out on ITV Digital and do the same with that – I just seem to have lost something I may have used. i.e. If two folks wanted to watch digital channels, one could watch Sky downstairs, the other Freeview upstairs etc.

Also, my software is on 1.01 which is a tad old, hopefully I’ll pick up the latest version soon. Unlike most it seems, the version number is not shown in the EPG – you have to search the menus for it and it’s called Loader. There’s another number which says Version Number which says r0.31. Unless I’m missing something obvious?

I’ve also noticed that using the same SCART leads that I had before, the picture is absolutely abysmal from my Sky+ box and then VCR at the bottom of the chain as it only has one SCART connector. I am buying some higher quality SCART leads, but don’t see why the Bush should have a great picture on the AV and the Sony not. The Sky+ is set to RGB, not PAL. Still, the actual IDTV picture from Freeview is definitely an improvement on the Bush – as you’d expect.

Cheers,
Paul

Sony IDTV & no 701? Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

After doing the re-tune on my Sony KV-28DX30 It’s not picking up ‘701′ yet it is picking up all other freeview options including 702 & 703.

Can anybody help please?

Thought I’d try the forum as there seems to be some very knowledgeable people here and I usually finish up with the YTS team when ringing manufacturers!

Thanks very much

Sony IDTV and BBC Parliament Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Hi All,

I’m getting the MHEG and audio OK for this channel but failing to get the 1/4 screen video. When tuning tto the channel the TV announces ‘no video’ could this be because my TV hasn’t registered a video PID for this channel – I’ve not done a full update since the first 16-QAM day, although I have been manually adding new channels (e.g. 16 QAM BBC1…)

Any thoughts?

Sony iDTV updates on air now Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

I guess most of you have this already, but my old (V4.73 – KV28DS60U) EPG has been updated today (29th Oct) to V4.92. It has been out for a while, so this is just a re-transmit for those that missed it.

Just in time for the launch. Cool.

Sony Idtv & Bbc Parliament Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Deliberately starting a new thread – previous comments have become buried – sorry.

SONY UK have consistently refused to comment on the inability of their IDTV’s to revieve the 1/4 screen video on BBC Parliament, saying that all will be well when Freeview is ‘on air’. Well Freeview is ‘on air’ this morning and I get everything perfect EXCEPT this video on BBC PARLIAMENT. Not particularly critical, but as said in the past – if it’s there I should be able to receive it – and (wisely ????) I have paid rather more that the £99 box that is now available. Friends who have paid £79 in John Lewis for a Grundig Box get it fine.

Has anyone else with a SONY IDTV who couldn’t get it before now managed to get it.? Is there anyone with a SONY IDTV can get it?

Sony iDTV questions (DX30) Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

OK I’ve now gotten my DX30, all seems to be fairly well and happy except I now have a few questions:

a) Is there anyway to see signal strength?
b) I’m correct in thinking that you can’t watch an analog channel and record the digital output? It seems to act like a switch box to the video if the video is connected via AV3 (i.e. one of TVTuner(Analog or digital) or AV2 or AV1 can be routed to AV3).
c) How do I get to see the software version?
d) Anyway to get rid of the annoying bleep when it loses the digital signal?
