MUX1 tomorrow then? Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

As much as it’s great to finally see BBC 4 (well okay, it’s not really that great ), MUX1 is still block-o-vision for me. So now that they’ve moved the channels, what’s stopping them doing MUX1? Or are they going to wait several days to give BBC4’s numerous viewers time to do a store channels to pick up the new version?

Come on BBC, you know you want to do MUX1.

Champions League now on ITV News Channel then? Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Now that the ITV News channel has increased its hours, will that mean the Champions League coverage that was always exclusively on cable “because of free-to-air” issues be available on DTT?

I bet it doesnt !!!

If DTT is to be successful then BBC Choice and ITV2 need to get better! Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

At the moment BBC Choice and ITV 2,don’t in my opinion scream out at the public,”look what you’re missing”

Perhaps BBC Choice is better than ITV 2.

But is anyone seriously going to go out and buy a DTT box for ITV 2’s current fare of “Hell” series that takes up half the schedles,as well as “Judge Judy”,”Trisha” et all.

When BBC Choice and ITV 2 first started they did have a lot of original programming, abit perhaps too early in the digital age.

Suppose,a bit like BBC Knowledge, once Digital was the norm, the ethics behind this channel would of been great, remove Schools,College and OU programming, freeing up BBC 1&2 to show more mainstream prgramming, but again launched well before it’s time.

But surely ITV with it’s massive library of quality drama, could find better ‘classic’ programming to mix with new exclusive commisioned shows. What about “a Touch Of Frost”,”inspector Morse” from the beginning.”Survival”,an adward winning documentary series.

What about certain sports only being available on Choice and 2?

Seems strange when the Premiership was moved from 7 to 10 on ITV 1,that the 7pm showing wasn’t just moved to ITV2,to myself that would of been a seling point to ITV2,see premiership highlights earlier but only on 2.

Suppose it’s like when snooker is on the BBC,there is no evening live action most of the time, but all Choice is showing is ‘crap’,why not use Choice?

Surely another selling point, watch the snooker, but only on Choice!

People know the BBC and ITV,and if their additional srvices aren’t showing anything of any interest, will the average ‘joe public’ look at anything else on offer on DTT,over and above the BBC and ITV’s secondary offerings?

Opinions?

Do ITV 2 and BBC Choice need to get there finger out of their backsides and start to offer services that might just sell the DTT and general digital idea to those viewers who up till now, haven’t felt the need to rush out and be part of the digital age.

Continuing what was the TV5 debate, then — foreign channels on DTT Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

I personally don’t feel it would be appropriate for any foreign channels to transmit on DTT.

On satellite and cable, there is plenty of bandwidth and pretty much anything that will attract a subscriber basis of 10K or upwards is a viable proposition.

On DTT, the bandwidth is significantly less and it is difficult to argue the case for minority interest channels. I, personally, would LOVE Sci-Fi to broadcast on DTT, but I accept that it’s a comparatively minority interest channel. Whereas something like E4 is of more benefit to more people, even though it doesn’t hit my G-spot particularly.

While people often get caught up in the political debate about foreign channels, ultimately they aren’t very different to any other minority channel. When there are only a limited amount of channels available, you don’t have the luxury to “waste” the space on something that will only be of benefit to a few people.

(Mind you, all that said, none of the above has prevented the BBC launching BBC4. If the BBC were made to compete on an even playing field through subscriptions etc, as opposed to the extortion of the TV licence, how long do you think BBC4 would last?)

2 weeks or 3 months then ??? Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

if funding for itv digital has been given for three months, yet they state it can be sold or liquidated after two weeks,is it possible it can shut down after the shorter period ?.especially,as they are back in court on the 15th. april.if they have not come to an agreement with the football league by then,is it automatic closure?.
incidentally, for those who don’t stray into the site & suggestions part of the forum,a big thank you for the superb ds breaking news coverage of yesterday

No Sci Fi then….. Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Just got this from the Sci Fi channel….

“Many thanks for your e-mail.

Unfortunately, there are no plans for Sci-Fi to be screened on ITV digital. Indeed, it is only available through NTL cable or Sky digital.

ITV may be a possible platform in the distant future.

Sorry I cannt be of any more help, have you thought about making this suggestion to ITV digital, so they can approach us?.
