TV choice. Do you still use it? Virgin Media TV On Demand

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Or are you like me and don’t even check it anymore. I’m so bored of the HD ‘content’ and i’ve only used it twice in the last few months and both of those were to watch Peep show again!

Seeing as VM state huge figures for on demand, yet this forum is quiet most of the time, and the only threads are to moan about lack of content or mixed up seasons and episodes missing. I’m wondering how much people can actually get out of the service.
So how often do you use it and when was the last time?

A useful, possible use for the BBC interactive channels. Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Say the BBC show a film. (I know it is a rare event but…) They often crop the film to 16:9 with a vaguely protected 4:3. Why not show the true widescreen (original aspect ratio) version on an interactive channel? The other interactive channel could carry a signed version of the film.

Something for everyone. Sign language viewers get a decent film signed for a change. People who want the screen filled with picture get that and people who prefer to watch the movie as the director intended get what they want too.

(As a matter of fact, when interactive services aren’t running, the BBC could do all their signing this way.)

Anyone up for starting a campaign?

Best place to get an aerial for inside use (for terrestrial analogue!)? Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

I seem to be in a terrestrial television black hole (as well as a mobile phone one )

Standard ‘set top’ indoor TV aerials give a just watchable picture, even with aligning, boosters etc for some channels it doesn’t even stay colour.

I was planning/hoping to get a DTT box but there doesn’t seem much point at the moment as it would probably be unusable.

What’s the best way to improve on this? (bearing in mind that it has to be indoor). Would a small loft/outdoor aerial used inside be much better? I don’t really mind what it looks like as long as it isn’t massive or expensive. Also where would be the best place to get one?-

Possible use for C4’s space on Mux2 Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Not sure if this has been posted, but just to be on the safe side…

Channel 4 is preparing to launch a new 24-hour iTV (interactive television) service through the Sky Digital platform. The new channel, 4Active, will join C4’s other pay-TV services, E4 and FilmFour, and will act as a programme guide. It is thought that 4Active may be used to fill C4’s available segment on the free-to-air DTT Freeview platform. (As reported on www.yahoo.co.uk)

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Is it possible to subscribe to ITV Digital but to use the set-top box in my bedroom? Will I be able to get pictures via an Indoor aerial or will I have to run a cable from my outdoor aerial?

Cheers

BBC’s use of Mux 1 Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Why did the BBC choose to simulate BBC Knowledge on Mux 1 when they could have used the capacity to use extra interactive features.
ie better interactive Walking With Beasts etc.

Then closer to the time when BBC Knowledge is due to leave Mux A then start broadcasting BBC Knowledge from Mux 1.

ON net – how do I use it? Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

My Dad has just got himself an ON net box which helpfully did not come with any instructions and he has not got a clue how to use it! Can someone help… Does it need to be plugged into the Ondigital box or just into the TV? Does he have to pay a monthly fee? He has no idea at all so any help will be much appreciated! Thanks all!

Which aerial to use? Freeview

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Could anyone give me any advice on how to find out what aerial I need.

My aerial I use at the moment is a roof top aerial and it is about 25 years old, maybe older, it gets great reception for Ondigital on its own but if i use a 4 way booster to my other TVs the receptions not so good.

I am in the Leicester area i cant remember off hand our transmitter name.

I cant understand what all these bands are on the aerials, e.g. Band B, Band A, etc.

Whats a Wideband aerial,

I think its about time i upgrade my aerial, the cable that comes down the wall is thin coax- and it falls apart if you touch it,

So seeing as i just put a sattelite dish up i might as well used my left over cable to sort out the aerial
