Vod more popular than Five? Virgin Media TV On Demand

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Now i’m going to leave the HD part of the article to the HD board and just concentrate of this one bit that he mentioned:

Quote:

Yesterday Berkett said the strategy was going well – subscribers now spend more hours watching VoD than linear channel Five – but admitted the “need to educate consumers and drive experimentation” in order to push the service.

taken from: Virgin: We only need one HD channel

Now I cant remember where but I do remember a few months that I read this and Five kicked off about it. Has VoD actually now passed Five or is this VM once again making a mess of things and will have to rephrase it in a few days time?

VOD has arrived in Loughton Virgin Media TV On Demand

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Sorry for starting a new thread on the subject, but people probably weren’t expecting to see this in the “no VOD in sight for Loughton” thread.

I can now confirm that the service has started working today and have been informed that it should now be working for all segments of the Waltham Forest Head End feeding the Woodford Green area.

Hats off to VM for several communications to me over the past few days. Apparently, the original plan for the Head End at Woodford Green would not have catered for 50 Mb Broadband and new cables have been laid to link from Waltham Forest, hence the delay.

VoD Adverts Rolled out now? Virgin Media TV On Demand

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Hi.

Is it just me or has adverts on VoD now been rolled out accross the country? I just went to watch yesterday (wednesday’s) Paul O Gradey and it played the “You’re watching Channel 4 on demand, the place to watch the best channel four programmes when ever you want to watch them” phrase and then played a single advert for T-Mobile.

Now I live in Newcastle, I knew they were trialing adverts in London area, however never knew they started now thoughtout the country.

I have no beef, good to support the programmes, athough I only had this show on for 5 minutes I cannot say if there has been anymore yet. One advert.

Virgin using switched channels for VOD? Virgin Media TV On Demand

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Hi Folks!

I noticed with the use of a dreambox that there are normally only one or two channels showing on demand content to the end user locally.

I know some of the cable companies in the states are using this new switching technology to deliver lots of HD channels. It works by only delivering the channel only when a viewer in that area requests it.

If Virgin really has a capacity problem, why are they not using this new technology for more than just the VOD channels? Surely if they made all their channels “Switched”, they would have practically unlimited capacity?

Are there any really clever bods from Virgin on here who could explain why this has not been put in place? Surely it would be a cheaper option than replacing the whole network like they said they would be doing from next year.

The Wire – VOD – Gone Again! Virgin Media TV On Demand

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

I finally settle down to watch S1 of The Wire on VOD, safe in the knowledge that it had loads of days left (when I checked a few weeks ago) and it’s gone again. This time i think they had the whole series listed rather than just odd episodes.

Is there any rhyme or reason to when Virgin delete content from VOD? The Wire definitely had plenty of time left but all trace of it has gone.
